No doubt about it, there are a lot of WordPress themes out there. Finding one that fits your needs and personal tastes takes a lot of time and effort. We know, we’ve been through it ourselves many times.

When we set out to develop a theme, our main goal was ease of use for people who aren’t designers. You’re writers, or busy moms and dads, business people, or just a hobby blogger looking for something that looks good.

You want to be able to upload a theme, make a few tweaks here and there to create a look that’s all your own, and keep the site running hassle-free. No one wants to be bothered with complicated code or learning a whole new language just to change your banner, add a video to the sidebar, or do something as seemingly simple as editing the text in the footer.

We’ve worked with many themes and many clients over the years, and we’ve found that there are only a few parts of a theme that users want changed. We looked at the patterns, boiled them down to a handful of options, and use them as the foundation for each custom theme we create.

Sirius Options

First up is the General Options panel. Here you’ll find an easy way to change out your banner image. Simply find the image on your computer that you want in the header and upload. Easy, right?

You betcha.

To add your RSS link or subscription form in many themes, you have to find where the sidebar files are located and then sift through all the code to add this information. With our themes, you simply paste your RSS link and the subscription form from Feedburner into the text fields in the General Options panel, and you’re ready to go.

In addition to adding your RSS links, you also have the option of changing out the RSS button image with one of your own. The button is a live link the moment you upload the image and save. Or, tell us what you want, and we’ll design the RSS link for you.

Sirius themes also have user-friendly options for adding video clips and header and footer codes like meta descriptions/keywords and Google Analytics tracking codes. Your site will look the way you want it to, and you won’t have to spend hours and hours wrestling with code.

The next set of options you’ll want to look at is on the Follow Me panel. Adding social network links like Facebook and Twitter has never been easier. This panel works on the same principle as the rest of the options; upload your social network icon (or use the defaults) and then paste the links to your social network pages. Advertise, link to friends, and spread your name effortlessly.

The last options panel is Ads. Here you have a minimum of two 125×125 ad blocks or a maximum of six ads. Again, upload, paste in your links and you’re done. No complicated plugins, no coding adjustments, just straightforward, no-nonsense upload, save and go.

3, 2, 1, Contact!

Ever wonder why no one’s thought about having a contact form built into a theme? We did too, and couldn’t find an answer. Contact forms are crucial to any site. You have potential clients visiting every day, and sooner or later they’re going to want to contact you. Nothing is more frustrating than having to search a site to get in touch with the owner.

Then again, for an owner, finding a contact form plugin that works for you can be equally aggravating.

Our themes come with a contact form built right in as a page template. Create your Contact page like you would any other page on the site. No stress, no hassle. Choose the “Contact” template, publish the page, and sit back until the inquiries come rolling in.

Customization

Another trend we’ve noticed is that the more “user friendly” a theme is, the more complicated it is to customize. Sure, there’s a million nifty options for changing fonts and layouts, but customizing the theme from the CSS and PhP files can be a nightmare. Do-it-yourself themes are fine, but they can be overwhelming and require a lot of effort on the part of the site owner to learn how everything works.
