Sirius Sunday: A Solid Kick in the Pants
Written by Rose - January 31, 2010 6 CommentsThe saddest thing in the world is a writer who won’t write because they think they’re no good at it.
“There are so many better writers,” they say. “I’ll never get published anyway. I’m no good at dialogue. I can’t edit worth a hill of beans. I wouldn’t know how to end a story even if I did start one.”
Believe me, friends. Talk long enough and hard enough and you can talk yourself out of anything.
In the epic comic series Sandman, Morpheus, the god of Dreams, has a huge library filled with the books that will never be written. One character gets to visit the library, and she pulls down a leatherbound work with a look of shock on her face, recognizing the title of her story, a work she never had the self-confidence to begin.
Don’t Be a Tragedy
The only person in the world who can write your novel, pamphlet, manual, or guidebook is you. But that doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. Here at Sirius we’re all about teamwork, and if you’re ready to give your dreams a shot, we’ll be there with all our skill and experience to help make sure you hit the mark.
Our Gifts to You
Monday brought a great reminder from Deb about the importance of a holistically awesome product. Reminds me of a Special Edition Wednesday article by Andy Hayes about how important good content is to support the good graphics on a project.
Notice that, since this is Sirius, he assumes your graphics are going to be awesome. (Check us out if you’re not sure.)
And THEN she reminded us that the Narcissist ebook comes out on Tuesday. Two more days! I tell you what, the Ebook looks good enough to eat. I can’t wait for it to come out; I had to bite my tongue to keep from reading whole pages aloud to my friends while I proofread. Not to be vain, but Sirius has good taste when it comes to finding partners. Thanks, Lori and Betsy, for letting us be a part of your wonderful project.
And, hey, look at that! Your Tuesdays won’t be so lonely anymore! Welcome with me the newest Sirius contributor: Steph VanderMeulen. The good times are rolling in again, so don’t miss out on all the writerly goodness that this irreplaceable freelancer has to offer. Just this last week she reminded us that the best writers are those that know how to edit. And vice versa? Be back on Tuesday to find out!
On Thursday, Allison hooked us in with the promise of guns and game. PHP! Who knew it could be so exciting? With elephants! Reminds me of a great short story about an elephant by George Orwell (Not the one by Hemingway… at all). Don’t miss this series; it will make you wonderful.
In all things. Not just in coding.
Isn’t that a great marketing scheme? “We’ll Make You Wonderful!” (aka, We’ll Make you Like Allison! Who doesn’t want a piece of the be-like-Allison pie?)
Believe it!
If you couldn’t tell from Deb’s post, we’re all super stoked for the upcoming release of the Narcissist ebook. Wendi’s article on Friday was all about the release party; it was a really insightful look into how to make a successful launch. Check it out, you won’t regret it.
And that was our week here on the Sirius Blog, but there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes. February is Ebook month, so don’t miss out on the discounts, offers, and a chance to have your project readied for publication for free.
Are you one of the many that has an unfinished project buried away beneath self-doubt and procrastination? Tomorrow never comes, my friends. Take a chance with your writing; contact us today and get in on the ebook action. We take you seriously. Isn’t it time you did too?

Super stoked is right — a caffeine buzz of anticipation with the humming, rumbling sounds of booster rockets getting ready to fire.

WOW! It sounds like this site is going to be rocking with all you have going on.
The narcissist ebook? Yup! I heard about that. After Tuesday, blogosphere won’t be the same. Rumor has it Betsy and Lori knock it out of the park. (Pssst…don’t tell anyone, but it’s a beauty to look at, too)

@Jamie: I know! Allison is one of the few people I know who would actually have leggos around their house to take pictures of!
@Lori: Caffeine buzz? More like rocket fuel. Pretty excited about it myself
@Barbara: This is only the tip of the burg. Funny thing is, I’m looking at Rose’s summary and thinking “We did all that this week?” (and thanks. we think it’s pretty too!)
