Sirus Sunday: This Post is Approved by Rose

Written by Rose - May 9, 2010 1 Comment

If you’re in the northern hemisphere or have been in the last two weeks, you may have noticed that it’s been quite warm (and by “quite” I mean “fairly). I was wearing short sleeves last week, and I frolicked merrily on the porch without a jacket and flirted with the idea of going swimming at an outdoor pool. I got a tan, I got burned; the sun and I were starting up a beautifully turbulent romance.

And then love smacked me in the face.

I packed away my winter clothes and coats, the long-sleeved shirts and scarves. I got dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and a cute skirt and I went boldly to face my day.

And I froze my tail (Disclaimer: I don’t really have a tail. Don’t get any ideas).

It’s been cold up here! I’m not talking solidified nose hair cold, but it hasn’t been fun to be outside in almost a week. Isn’t it supposed to be Spring? Just when I finished bracing myself for cold, just when I got comfortable with the undeserved warmth, that’s when the weather went back to the frosty mess of winter.

Touché, climate. Touché.

A Week in Review

Do you read? Do you like good stories? Do you appreciate well-developed characters and a narrative that can excite, inspire, and stick in your head long after the last page? Then you’re gonna love what our bosses have been doing in their spare time. Wendi and Deb have been writing a novel! The book is still early in the revision stage, but I’ve gotten to see the manuscript and I’m stoked. On Monday Deb gave some background to the birthing of this novel, and it’s a great story itself about long-held dreams and perseverance.

Spoiler: Deb’s not the only one who’s been wanting to go to Alaska…

Allison gave us a great lesson in HTML footers on Thursday. Dudes, if y’all aren’t starting to feel like internet gurus, then you aren’t reading our Thursday posts often enough. This girl’s got the goods! Now I know how to make stationary messages that show up on every page. If I were in charge of the Sirius, I think I’d put a nice “This site is approved by Rose” stamp beneath the copyright. I think I’ll go run that idea by Deb…

On Friday Wendi just about made me cry. In a time when employment is scarce and job security is nothing more than a memory, it’s good to hear that there are some who can say with complete honesty that they wouldn’t want to work any other way. Do you love your job? If you can’t say yes, maybe you should talk to Wendi about you can do to make your situation better. They say that smiles are contagious.

Back to Me

There’s a great allegorical moral to be gained from my pain, I’m sure, but I don’t want to talk about the joys of rising above setbacks to achieve greatness because, to be frank, I’d rather sulk about the fact that I’m wearing long sleeves again.

But that doesn’t mean my mind is closed! A lesson has been learned, friends. I’m a naïve person, but that’s the last time I get tricked into believing that a few days of heaven guarantee a lifetime (or even a month or two) of contentment.

Maybe the real lesson here is that people who like routine should make their home in places with stable climates. Like the Sahara. Or Alaska.

Speaking of which, on Tuesday I’ll be traveling to Alaska with my roommates for a three-week trip. Well, we’ll be leaving on Tuesday; it takes about 80 hours to make the drive from Illinois to Seattle to Canada to Alaska.

That’s right, folks. We’re driving. Three women, one car, and a heck of a lot of enthusiasm. The problem is that once we get to Alaska, internet access is going to be sketchy since we’ll be out on a fishing island.

So, sad to say, this will be the last Sirius Sunday by yours truly—for a while, at least. It’s been fun keeping y’all updated, and don’t stop reading just because I’m not here to tell you to! Keep reading, keep writing, keep on keeping on, and always remember that Sirius is here to help you be the best you can be, because what you say matters. Siriusly!

A Note from the Sirius/Blue Sun Team:

Rose,

Let me just say on behalf of the whole group, thank you so very much for your marvelous Sunday posts. We’ll keep them going, although there’s no way we can ever reach your level of wit – or maybe we can? Either way, what I’m trying to say is no one can take your place. You’re a treasure to us all.

Congratulations on your graduation from college. We know how hard you worked and dammit, girl, you deserve all the best.

Stay safe in Alaska, keep in touch and pet the wolves and moose for me.

Lots of love,

Deb, Wendi and Allison.
